Champs de Bataille
Upcoming solo show and artist talk : 25 April 2017. Lehman College. NYC
In 2012, I was able to acquire my clothing worn the night of the assault from the Forensic laboratory in Casablanca, Morocco. It was ultimately the male DNA on the clothing that gained me a conviction in my case.
In these three mixed media pieces, I display these artifacts of violence like innocuous commercial items. In “Champs de Bataille (v.1),” I display my original clothing worn 31 December 2008 in Morocco, on an industrial pipe clothing rack. The clothing show signs of wear and analysis. Attached to the panties, bra, pantyhose, and dress are hang tags that read in sum, “Mon Corps Est Un Champs De Bataille.”
In “Champs de Bataille (v.2) and (v.3),” I display both black and white iterations of the original clothing on an industrial pipe clothing rack. Dangling between each article of clothing are the accompanying evidence bags, used in the Forensic laboratory, Casablanca, Morocco.
